The origins and traditions of Chinese Chorizo will be celebrated Oct. 26 at the Tucson Chinese Cultural Center.
As part of Chinese Chorizo Month, Tucson Chinese Cultural Center will host a special event from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26. Tucsonans whose families owned local Chinese grocery stores will talk about their experience making “Chinese chorizo” - individualized versions of chorizo that Chinese grocery stores made, sometimes using Chinese sausage, to attract customers in the predominantly Mexican neighborhoods where the markets were often located.
After learning about the history and traditions of Chinese Chorizo, guests will be invited to taste a dish that is unique to Tucson and a nod to our area’s blending of Chinese and Mexican cultures: chorizo fried rice.
Free & open to the public.
