Lion Dance

Welcome to the Tucson Chinese Lion Dance Program!

We are a non-profit troupe dedicated to preserving, and learning the art of the Chinese Lion Dance.

We teach kids and adults all aspects of the Lion Dance, from the basics of the dance, to learning routines and playing musical instruments.   During the course of the year, members also have the chance to perform the dance!

Our troupe has performed at numerous events all around Tucson and even in Phoenix, such as the Rodeo and Fiesta bowl parades, Tucson meet yourself fair, ect.

All age groups 7 years old and up can join the program as we welcome anyone who wants to learn!

Learn About Lion Dancing

What is a Chinese lion? It’s a mythical creature, a symbol of luck, the protection against evil. During Chinese New Years, it represents the ideas and thoughts of Chinese culture and traditions. The performance of two people in a lion costume performing acrobatic techniques while telling a story has delighted thousands upon thousands of people not just in China, but worldwide.

Our purpose is to teach these traditions and cultures to anyone who wants to learn. To inspire new students and hope that they continue and inspire even more students.

In 2004, Si Fu Kevin moved down to Tucson for college and began to each lion dancing at the Tucson Cultural Center with Si Fu Gary Low. They both started with 4 students and eventually ended up with class of over 20 students. With the help of the Tucson Chinese community, they were able to build the program and start performing for many events in the Tucson area.
