“My name is Jing Xia, a PhD student in Applied Intercultural Arts Research – Graduate Interdisciplinary Program at University of Arizona.
I would like to invite you to participate in my research project on Chinese classical music and wellbeing. This study investigates the effects of guqin music practice on personal growth and sense of community belonging among Chinese Americans. As a member of the Chinese American community, your insights are important to me.”
Eligibility
You may participate in this project research if you meet all of the following criteria:
You are age 18 years or older.
Activities
If you decide to participate in this study, you will:
Complete a well-being-related survey before and after the workshop on week 1 and week 8.
Learn, play, and share guqin music in a group setting at the Tucson Chinese Cultural Center for eight weeks.
Write reflective journals during this self-exploration journey.
Have one in-depth interview about musical engagement experiences during the workshop.
All activities and questions are optional: you can skip any part of this study that you do not wish to complete.
Cost and Compensation
Please note that there is a cost of $5 for each session charged by Tucson Chinese Cultural Center.
However, a scholarship is available if needed. Additionally, as a thank you for your participation, you will receive a $25 gift card if you finish all the activities.
